The 4th edition of the Industrial Carbon Management (ICM) Forum was held in Pau, France on October 10-11, co-hosted by the European Commission and the French Ministry of Energy.

The event provided a solid platform to showcase the Heidelberg Materials’ CCUS project portfolio across Europe. On the invitation of Heidelberg Materials, Konstantin Bojinov, Project Manager took part in the event, presenting Project ANRAV and its progress before an audience of over 550 participants.

The ICM Forum enabled a meaningful exchange between key industrial stakeholders, officials from the Member States, EU institutions, NGOs, associations, and academics, necessary to establish the path forward to better positioning of industrial carbon management projects and CCUS initiatives throughout Europe.

In her keynote opening, Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson stated: Carbon capture, utilization and storage will play a major role in our journey to 2050. The 2040 Climate Target Plan underlines that industrial carbon management is not just an alternative. It is a vital complement to renewables and energy efficiency. Alongside all this, we are seeing tangible, on-the-ground progress.

The Forum provided a common platform for the participants to discuss and work in unison toward the creation of a strong business case in support of CCUS and the multi-tier benefits it has the potential to unlock.

“The ANRAV project enables us to reinforce our commitment to ICM on the local level, as it aspires to achieve a reduction of 7.8 million tons of CO2 emissions in the first 10 years of operation of the installation. It is one of the key projects of the Heidelberg Materials Group CCUS project portfolio that ambitiously aims to reduce carbon emissions by a total of 10 million tonnes by 2030 through all of its ongoing projects worldwide,” emphasized Konstantin Bojinov in his address.

The focus of this year’s edition was the implementation of the Commission’s Strategy on Industrial Carbon Management, including discussions on future policy developments, advocating for the creation of a single market for CO2 on the continent, including in the areas of transport, infrastructure, standardization and Carbon Capture and Utilization applications.
